Gena Grant
Biography
I have been inspired by dance and theatre and assembled these two artistic practices into sculptural pieces. My background in the arts is extensive. While earning a double major in drawing and sculpture at the Atlanta College of Art, I joined a traveling dance, singing, and comedy theatre troupe. Such publications as Rolling Stone Magazine and The New York Times highlighted this group with critical acclaim. This led to a long career as a professional dancer and choreographer. With my artistic background, my work transformed into performance art and sculptural installation.
Today, I work from my studio in my home. I taught art to children in elementary school. I think working with the children has helped me keep the creativity and wonder of art fresh.
I have tried to look at the ordinary, the chaotic, the living, fraying, coming apart and ask the question; how do I experience my own transformation of thought and perception?
